Pat Knoechel, sister of Eleanor Burns, opens the program The Magic Vine book, from the Quilt in a Day series, is the main topic for the evening

The Magic Vine quilt, using today's fabrics... ....originated from this quilt made in the 1930's

A tablerunner, one of many shown, used just a small portion of the patterns.  Notice the wide rick-rack used as an inner border. This new line of fabric by Eleanor Burns was created with The Magic Vine patterns in mind for a repro look

Pat not only demonstrated techniques from the book to make the flowers, but also how to turn a leaf using the infamous bodkin Pat holds the newest ruler designed to make both scallops and waves, and is about to demonstrate how it also allows a vine to be centered perfectly

The vine and scalloped edges were both made using the new ruler.  Notice the seam down the middle of the right panel, with chalk lines drawn for vine placement. The demonstration with the vine and flower placement continues

This "chocolate raspberry" quilt was stunning, and used only a portion of the flower patterns Another tablerunner in a more open style.  (Uh-oh....looks like Marlene's arms were getting tired!)
june15.jpg (46591 bytes) june16.jpg (58840 bytes)
This diamond-in-a-square quilt was made with soft florals and applique This same diamond-in-a-square quilt was pieced-only using a floral border and fussy-cuts

Another useful tip on applying binding...attach it to cording on your neck and simply unroll... ...however, first wrap the binding onto an empty roll of toilet paper!

This Trip Around the World quilt pattern is strip pieced..... .....and a small tablerunner can be made quite easily using the extra fabric that remains
june22.jpg (55325 bytes) june25.jpg (66275 bytes)
The simplicity is found by strip piecing and using mirror images....notice the two sections of the quilt by (there's a 'break' showing in the middle of the two halves) Another quick-stripped quilt using a similar technique
june23.jpg (57654 bytes) june24.jpg (55339 bytes)
That same technique was used to create this water lily pond The use of 3-D 'stuffed' water lilies changes the entire appearance

These ambitious members of the guild have completed yet another section of the Mystery Quilt...and are proud of it (and rightfully so!) Show & Tell began with Kathy G. showing her beautiful applique quilt top
june28.jpg (54371 bytes) june30.jpg (61897 bytes)
This colorful quilt perked up everyone! While this colorful child's quilt had everyone smiling
june29.jpg (54281 bytes) june32.jpg (43532 bytes)
Ooh's and aah's were heard from everyone when this beautifully machine-embroidered quilt was shown One of the BEST tips of the night came from a new member:  she is using 'press and seal' wrap for her quilt marks, and after quilting through it, she simply peels it off...easily!

Another talented member displays her Jacobean style wallhanging And the night ended with Elise's I-Spy quilt using sashing
