Berks Quilters Guild Juniors

The Junior Quilt Guild met at Kloma Ostrowski's house for a sewing room tour on October 5. They had a great time! There are 6 members but only 4 were able to attend. They did a craft project, had snack time, read a story, and viewed a trunk show of some of Kloma's quilts. Kloma supplied some photos and captions of the meeting.

This is our cake. We also had cookies that looked like buttons and Hawaiian Punch served on Halloween plates.
Stephanie Wanner, Marlene Calvaresi, and Robert Pierce working on a craft project. We made bags decorated with fabric candy corn and embellished them with buttons. The children learned how to pen stitch.
Nancy Pierce helping her daughter, Catie, make a craft project. After the bags, we made book markers. The children had their choice of a pumpkin, ghost, or a cat.
Stephanie, Jennifer, Catie, and Robert getting ready for their snack. While they ate I read them a story, "The Quiltmakers Gift"
The book had twenty different quilt blocks. After the story we had a trunk show. The children could see and touch different quilt blocks and finished quilts. They even saw a quilt that was made over 100 years ago.

The sewing room tour is coming to an end. We had a door prize donated by Claudia Heilman: "My First Quilt Book," by Winky Cherry, and a Boyds Bear Pin. Robert was our winner! He shared the pin with his sister, Stephanie, but being new to quilting he kept the book!

Our day concluded with a gift for all the children. A fat quarter of fabric, a tape measure, a packet of needles, and some Halloween chocolates. The Junior Guild will use their new quilt book to construct an entry for our 2004 Quilt Show. So watch for it!
